Chef Reniel Billups. - CHEF/OWNER
Chef Reniel Billups, a native of Westmoreland Jamaica,
moved to the States at the age of 9. Being raised among a family of good Cooks, Chefs and Restaurateurs, Reniel learned her way around the kitchen at an early age. After being turned down for a lead Cook position at the world's second largest Coast Guard Aviation base in North Carolina, she accepted a dishwasher position at the same base. One day the lead cook called in at work and Reniel was asked to fill in for the missing cook. Within 6 weeks, Reniel was cooking for over 700 men and women in uniform and civilians daily.
Since that time, Chef Reniel had started an online cooking series on YouTube entitled Reniel's Irie Kitchen ( Irie is a Jamaican term meaning good vibes ), opened a Restaurant named Reggae Bay Cafe that closed in 2007 due to the housing market crash and highway construction. In 2018 Chef Reniel launched Irie Occasions Catering and Party Planning and began doing Pop Up dinners at PJ Lager House, Detroit City Distillery, Lost River Tiki, 8 Degrees Plato, Two James Spirits, Marble Bar, Dearborn Brewing and a Jamaican Pop up held every Saturday at Brooklyn Street Local
and the current every first Sunday at Motorcity Wine. Chef Reniel also won the Eastern Market 2019 Annual Nourish Chef Challenge. In September of 2019 Reniel acquired the space at 406 N. Telegraph road in Pontiac now known as Flavors of Jamaica.
